Including a Pup, a Scavenger Hunt, and the Sweetest “Yes”
Ireland and Conlee’s love story got even sweeter on a crisp afternoon in Cedar Falls, with their pup Zayda by their side. Conlee had planned the perfect surprise proposal in Iowa, one that felt just like them: personal, playful, and full of heart.
Earlier in the day, Ireland followed a scavenger hunt created by Conlee, each clue leading her closer to the park where he was waiting. It was thoughtful. Sentimental. The kind of proposal that shows you don’t need the biggest gestures to make a moment unforgettable you just need intention, a little bit of magic, and someone who knows you better than anyone else.
When Ireland finally arrived, she thought they were just going for a walk with Zayda (their dog). But as they made their way toward the water, I stayed a few steps behind, camera ready. Conlee took her hand, paused under the trees, and dropped to one knee.
Everything else faded. Ireland’s face said it all, and Zayda’s tail wagging in the background sealed the deal.

How to Have Your Photographer Capture the Surprise Proposal
Want the moment documented without giving it away? Here’s how I help couples pull it off:
Hide in plain sight
We’ll choose a location with natural cover (trees, parked cars, scenic spots), and I’ll arrive early to blend in. You’ll get clear instructions and a map so you know exactly where to walk and where to pop the question.
Plan a “giveaway shoot” or fake session
Want to throw them off? Book a “couples session” and surprise them mid-way through. I’ve done this before and it always makes for the BEST reactions.
Prep together
I’ll help you time the light, choose the right spot, and plan where to stand so everything looks and feels natural. You’ll never have to say, “Where do I look?” or “What do I do with my hands?”, I’ve got you.
Include the dog (or other meaningful details)
Zayda was part of Ireland and Conlee’s moment, maybe your pup will carry the ring, or you’ll play your favorite song. The more “you” it feels, the better the photos.
If you’re dreaming up your own surprise proposal in Iowa, and want a photographer who’ll keep the secret, calm your nerves, and catch every honest reaction, you know where to find me.
